I love this time of year. After shlepping around in the cold and snow for 5 months we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Spring is where us working moms can really shine.. am I right? It can be so tough to get the kiddos to fun activities in the winter but when it warms up there are so many things to do, all days of the week and at all times.. there are no excuses for not taking the kiddos to do something! Even if it’s simply taking them to the neighborhood park after school or taking them for a scooter ride at your favorite path. Our go to is at Little Bay Park by the Throgsneck Bridge. Always a beautiful sunset and there is an ice cream truck that parks by Fort Totten that serves as a reward for our exercise most days.
I am also looking forward to the cherry blossoms blooming! I saw a few trees with pink on them today that looked amazing. I am starting to look around for places to take D and I thought I would share that list with ya’ll in case you have the same mind frame.
In addition to my list of 5 things to do this spring I also recommend doing the simple outdoor things that are free. How about a hike at your local green space? It isn’t quite swimming season but your kids will still enjoy building sand castles which is why I also recommend heading to a local beach. Coney Island is always accessible by train, but it you are willing to drive there is always Jones Beach on Long Island.
I also find doing spring activities really helps alleviate stress from work. I don’t know about you, but for some reason it feels like everything has just piled up out of nowhere and I am struggling to keep it together.
I think the important thing to remember as you venture into the outdoors again as a family is to put the phone down! I am guilty of it, but it is so important to give your full attention to your kids after focusing on work all week. They demand it, they deserve it! You gotta be 100% and shine on those days off.
